Margaret, a native of southern Virginia, earned a B.S. in Art from Radford University and a graduate degree in Adult Education from the University of Missouri.
Fifteen years ago, while working on a watercolor she deemed “beyond hope,” Margaret had a creative breakthrough. She tore the painting into pieces, leaving deckled edges, and discovered that the fragmented pieces formed unique patterns and textures. By assembling these fragments into collages, she transformed her approach to watercolor, essentially inventing a three-dimensional style of watercolor painting. “It’s my baby,” Margaret says of her technique, which remains uniquely hers.
Today, Margaret blends detailed watercolor painting with loose, abstract pieces explicitly created for collage. Although Margaret works in various media, including acrylics, oils, and pastels, her passion remains watercolor collage. She continues to explore new media and techniques.
